Indoorsy Southern Illinois

Southern Illinois is known for it’s nature. When asked what there is to do here, know that 85% of the things recommended are going to involve being outside. 10% will be restaurants, and the other 5% is what we’re going to discuss today!

So what IS there to do in Southern Illinois that is indoors? Let’s dive in.

  1. Book Clubs/Library - There is a True Crime Book Club at Anne West Lindsey (I started it) for starters BUT as a former librarian you know I have to break two things down; you do not have to live in that town to use that library (or attend programs, usually, always rsvp first though) and the library is not just books. They host crafting nights or weekend events, book clubs, and sometimes they are just a really nice place to sit and work or read.

  2. Project Human X

  3. Cedarhurst Center for the Arts

  4. Pirate Pete’s Arcade

  5. The Hub (pool/waterpark)

  6. John A. Logan Fitness Center open swim

  7. St. Nicks MDH - watch planes land

  8. VIP 8 $5.50 movie Tuesdays

  9. Checkers upstairs at Giant City Lodge

  10. Wineries

  11. Williamson County Antique Trail

  12. Southern Illinois Coffee Trail

  13. Fish Tales Pottery class

  14. Wander CAS

  15. Sharp Museum

  16. Escape Rooms at Chittyville (seasonal)

  17. Walker’s Bluff Casino, Spa, or Pool (indoor and outdoor) - Spa customers get access to a pool too

  18. The Science Center/walking the spooky old Carbondale Mall

  19. Indoor golf simulators (Von Jakob, Kokopelli, etc.)

  20. SIUC Student Center (if you feel comfortable, the youths make me feel old) - Bowling, pool.

  21. Bowling Alleys - S.I. Bowl features an arcade, league, and volleyball court. Herrin Bowl also has games. West Frankfort Bowl is rumored to have an amazing burger.

I will update this as I find them!
